Upon reading the course syllabus and Composition as a Write of Passage, I now understood how important this course will be. As an architecture student, I was able to identify with Godwin Erekaife in that I did not realize the purpose of taking this course and how it would benefit my professional life. Yet, I now know how crucial Freshman Composition would be for the development of my career. I am excited to broaden my writing skills for the sake of communicating with others.

During my high school years, I constantly doubted myself and my ability to write. I found it difficult to develop the story I was trying to tell. When I would write papers for school, assignments would be challenging because the ideas I had were difficult for me to portray on paper. To this day, I still struggle with organizing my thoughts onto paper and I am most afraid my obstacle would be shown throughout the duration of the course.

While reading Composition as a Write of Passage, one of the key points she mentioned she learned from her Freshman Composition course was the ability to recognize your audience when writing. As my knowledge of writing grew, I was able to adapt to my circumstances and efficiently write for my audience. Adapting has become my strength when writing and I believe it could be an extremely important factor for anybody’s work.

I am excited to learn more and improve my skills as a writer. As a future architect, I know communication will be key during my career. My ability to communicate with various clients and being able to acknowledge their choice of language will be crucial for the success of my business. I understand a good writer is capable of recognizing their objective and including various aspects to make their work as exceptional as possible. I am excited to learn and expand my knowledge of writing in order to benefit myself and my future.

As indicated by the syllabus,I realized this english lesson shows us the composition of a great writing. By permitting ourselves to understand books and figure out how to compose. It can help us to organize better our writing sequence, so the audiences can get what we try to say and have a better understanding on a certain topic. Inditing an able exposition will help me a ton later on for my significant course .However I despite everything have some befuddle question about this class, I need to know whether there would be any exams for this class.
There are numerous variables important skills, or ideas to get a great writing . Firstly, We need a convincing enough reason to explain its main idea that connects with what we are trying to say to the audiences. One of the most important point is we need to have more personal experiences or knowledge toward a certain thing/ topics, so that we can get examples to illustrate the main thrust of our essay.
My educational aspirations consist of acquiring a bachelor’s degree in economics with the goal of work in the finance office or the bank clerical, so I guess having a good writing can help me to express my ideas and opinions in a better way to others, especially when it is something connected to economic issues.

After carefully reviewing the syllabus, I feel very anxious about writing the essays in this course mainly because I am not confident in my writing abilities. However, I feel excited about learning how to ameliorate my writing abilities so that it can benefit me throughout my life. I know that there will be various strategies and tips in this course to help me improve as a writer.

Good writing is primarily subjective since it varies for individuals, but I strongly believe good writing consists of having deep meaning, containing an emotional impact, and being appreciated in a complex way to the individual. Also, having the ability to fully immerse readers into gravitating towards the writing is another quality. In order for one to become a good writer, they have to have mastered specific skills in literature and apply these skills to use. Writing is prominent because it allows the ability to express oneself in an imaginative way. Furthermore, writing is a powerful tool that can change one’s perspective about themselves internally and externally. Writing well helps one’s ideas to flow eloquently which helps for an individual to be expressive of themselves.

My strength in writing is that I can express myself in topics I have knowledge about and that people can have a general idea of what I am trying to convey. However, the hardest part is trying to make my writing more in depth and detailed since my writing can sometimes be too vague. Also, I struggle with the repetition of the same ideas. I often do not realize when I repeat certain ideas and my writing ends up sounding redundant.

In the field of computer science, people are expected to write documents, comments, emails, design, and planning. Being an effective writer can benefit me in this field because it can allow me to effectively organize my ideas into a presentable form which can help explain my ideas and justify my code. Also, it will help me with my public speaking in communicating with my peers and explaining my documentation thoroughly.

Class Introduction-ENGL 110

After carefully reviewing the syllabus, I was really enthusiastic about writing as a form of activism to introduce changes to the “status quo”. The reason is that I always had the passion to write intellectually and express my opinions in a form of art that could bring changes, or maybe even teach someone the other side of the story. I grew up in a country where patriarchy still exists and I was sometimes told that my voice did not matter which is the reason I express myself better in writing than speaking, but when I moved to America, I grew up to be an independent woman with personal opinions/ beliefs, so I am really excited that this course will allow me to express my opinion in writing about social issues, etc. As you can tell, I am really excited about the first Essay!!!!

I think the qualities of good writings are the word of choice, it is really important to have accumulative language so that you can be understood, which then relates to readings. I think that you have to read a lot, in order to create an outstanding piece of work. However, there are other things that contribute to that aspect, for instance, the accuracy of the text, resonance to the audience, etc.

For me, the easiest part about writing is the construction of the essay or story. I always write in order, whether that is the introduction, main body, or conclusion.

I find it hard to write about things that do not interest me but I am working on it and trying to expand my ideas and push boundaries to the fullest because I know that the future will have me write things I do not want to, whether that is in a classroom or career. However, I also dislike editing!!!

I am not very informant in what genres I am required to write as economics, but I do believe it is required a lot of analysis, which has to be very descriptive. Moreover, having the qualities of a good writer that I mentioned above and more, you are able to write whatever. I think that being an effective writer can affect your career opportunities because nowadays almost every job requires writing, so you have to fit in with those requirements.

Hello my name is Alexa Morales (she/her) , and intended to major in Psychology.

In this course, I am the most excited for the group discussions and the texts I’ll be reading to gather my thoughts correctly. I am also really excited to listen to these lectures because I’ve never gathered evidence this way throughout my whole life. I’m the most interested in using different forms of technologies and writing my pieces for an audience. However, I am a bit nervous for all of the essays. Although I understand that the planning of them is all spaced out, I feel scared that I will become overwhelmed with all of the writing. Especially because I am not used to writing essays in multiple pages.

The qualities of good writing has to deal with well articulated thoughts, little to no writing mistakes, evidence and smooth transitions. This has been repeated to me all throughout my years in school. I’ve always tried my best with making my writing this way. It’s extremely important to be able to write well so that you are able to get your point across. No one would be willing to read your work if it is all over place. I would say that the easiest part of writing for me is gathering the texts that I will be citing in my work. I do really well with finding informational texts that will help guide me with my thinking. However the hardest part of the writing process for me would have to be being able to sit down and actually construct the essay. Sometimes I have trouble focusing, especially trying to write an essay that includes more than one page. But I’m sure that I will be able to work on this with getting help from others such as the help I could get from the writing center. I also believe that throughout the course I will improve with my writing because each assignment will be my way of pushing myself to do better.

I am not sure what writings will come from me from my intended study in Psychology, the only thing that comes to my mind is the moment I would have to write a synopsis on one of my clients. As well as writing brief notes on their concerns, and my ability to interpret it into a solution for my client. Being an effective writer can affect my career because I need to be able to properly write about my client and use each session as an opportunity to help my client with my interpretation of their concerns. My analysis of their problems can be the form of advice that they will need. I believe that I will be able to perfect these skills in this course.

Hi, my name is Eden Seifu. I’m a freshman and undecided student. My preferred to pronounce she/her/hers.

After reviewing the syllabus, I’m excited to grow strong writing skills to succeed academically, personally, and professionally. As an English second language speaker, I believe this course will provide me with the fundamentals of grammar, a better understanding of literary devices, rhetorical strategies, different writing skills, and feedback. I’m nervous about the reading part because I don’t have a strong background in reading. Even though the writing and reading process might be challenging, it’s enjoyable.

I don’t know a lot about writing. But when I think about writing center ideas, construction, connection, and accuracy make it worth the paper. On the other hand, the qualities of good writing serve the audience as well as the truth.

The easy part of writing is constructing the essay Because, at this point, I already know what to write center ideas. Editing and citation are straightforward.
The hardest part of the paper is creating the main images, finding the essay’s thesis, and writing the introductory sentence.

For now, I don’t know what major to choose, as well as genre. But being an effective writer will help me in the future. Being an influential writer will help impress the audience, build a network, and develop communication skills.

After reviewing the syllabus, I am excited about the peer review workshop. It’s really great to have different sets of eyes looking over your work to provide feedback. The class description states that there would be a focus on social justice. It’s important to discuss complex topics. I am pretty opinionated but I would like to get my points across more clearly in writing.

I am nervous about the reflections because I don’t find them easily. It’s hard to critique your own work and be objective. I have written reflections before and I never feel like I had anything substantive to say. The qualities of good writing are creating interest in your work and getting your point across articulately. To be a good writer is a bit subjective. Some people like to read lengthy descriptions of scenery while others prefer to read short direct sentences. One thing all good writers have in common is personality. It’s what makes the work unique.

It is important to write well because it’s another form of communication besides speaking. If you can do both very well you’re a force to be reckoned with. Writing is encountered in daily life. It can range from a diary entry to a resume. Personally, I find creative writing very simple. It allows the imagination to flow freely. The hardest part of writing is the deadlines. I find jobs that are writing based very interesting. What holds me back is the hard deadlines. I do not know what genre I will be expected to write for my intended major because I am undecided. Being an effective writer will broaden your career opportunities because it is a sought after skill.

ENGL 110 – Introduction Essay

Name: Christine Castillo

Major: Studio Art & Psychology

Pronouns: She/Her

Initially I felt anxious coming into a writing intensive class knowing I would be navigating distance learning while also possibly maneuvering unfamiliar technologies. However after reading the English Composition introduction and syllabus, along with the assigned essay “Composition as a Write of Passage” by Nathalie Singh-Corcoran, I feel optimistic and well informed.  I look forward to the breadth of information that will be provided over the course of the semester. Exploring a variety of essays and the technical processes behind achieving work that is both informative and interesting will be exciting.

There are so many forms of writing that it seems difficult to define what would be considered “good” outside of the generalizations of flow, context, and grammatical accuracy. Whether a piece is entertaining or dull is a matter of audience opinion. Does a captivating conversational author outweigh one who is concise and formal? In my limited experience with writing I am thorough and detailed, so while I enjoy communicating thoughts and ideas, I must be cautious to avoid becoming repetitive.  I am interested to learn what constitutes writing well and the methods that support it.

I am continuing my education to become an Art Therapist for diversely-abled individuals and am aware there are many expectations for writing within the field.  Therapists are expected to keep documentation and maintain records, write in depth assessments and treatment plans, and professionally correspond with colleagues as well as members of a client’s support team. Being an effective writer can only positively affect my future career and I hope to build the foundation needed to achieve this both academically and professionally.

As a freshman in college, I was already nervous about one thing. Whether or not I would be able to survive a college-level English course. And it certainly did not help that we were doing online classes because distractions are everywhere. However, upon looking through the syllabus, my concerns lessened when I discover that we would be able to discuss societal norms and values and how it would challenge social justice. Living during a time where we can fight for social justice and promote change, has always been an interest in mine. Being able to discuss these topics allows me to assure myself that I would be engaged in class and that I would hopefully do well.

Although initially, engagement was a worry of mine, another concern was that writing has always been a weakness for me. The hardest part is being able to write in a good flow. As a result, oftentimes, my writing may sound “childish” and not “mature”. It does not sound that good when you read it. However, I do intend to overcome this weakness of mine and learn new things through the critique of my peers and instructor. A strength in mine when it comes to writing would be the ability to conduct research. I am able to find several detailed information that I would incorporate in my writing, to inform my audience.

Several qualities would make a writing piece be considered ‘good’. An example of the qualities would be, good flow to the writing, no grammar mistakes, and that you can engage the reader or audience without bombarding them with information. Instead, you utilize unique techniques to engage them. Of course, none of these would be possible if you weren’t focused. One has to be focused because it allows you to be in this state of mind where you think about how you should structure your writing, and it just allows you to have this flow of information and ideas flow out of your brain onto a piece of paper. Being able to write well is so significant because you are effectively able to get your ideas/message across to your audience whether it is to inform or persuade them. You can ignite change or inspiration through your writing.

With the intention of going into the field of computer science, I would need to write really well because it is crucial in career opportunities. When finding a job, it’s hard. A factor that sets you apart from other applicants is if your able to get your ideas across important people, whether it is your boss, an investor, or your team. If people are unable to understand what your code means through your writing, why would they work with you or hire you?

After reviewing the syllabus, I noticed the purpose of this class about reading and writing, and how it would benefit me in the future since I could improve my writing level as a college student, and I believe it would help me a lot with my major and future career. However, there is always something that I get nervous about, but also anxious concerning the syllabus which is the time management, and I would like to get some pieces of advice on how we can handle it. Also, I wonder if we would have any quizzes and exams in this course since it doesn’t show in the syllabus.
Concerning the qualities of good writers, I believe the ability to be able to connect the information to their own experiences and thoughts is a good one because they can get their audiences the point of what they are trying to speak. Next, being able to write well helps you and your readers to understand better when sharing stories with them, but also can catch their feelings and emotions connected to your writing. It is important to write well because I think it would help you a lot in the future when you try to share some of your ideas and thoughts with others.
Different parts of writing always have different bars on it, depending on each individual. For example, the easiest part of writing for me is to explain the meaning and the significance of certain references to give further detail to the viewers when I try to write in some essays. However, other people might think differently. On the other hand, the hardest part of writing is to provide information on something when I have little knowledge of it, and I worry about my mistakes since everyone can think differently according to their beliefs and point of view.
Relating to genres that I will be expected to write with my intended major/ future career, I guess it would be something similar to essays, reports in order to give concepts and details to people, so they could have a better conclusion of what I try to say, such as facts and concerns linked to economic problems. Next, being an effective writer affects my career opportunities because it could help me to share my opinions clearly and to provide details to others, which can let them have a better determination associated with finances.
