For essay #3 I’d like to focus my writing around an audience who is somewhat familiar to the topic. General readers can also be pointed in the direction of my essay, however the targeted audience are people who can relate to my topic and but not limited to people that can make a difference within the issue. For example, government officials, news broadcasters, ect. I would want people of all ages to be my intended audience age range due to the fact that the younger generation will most likely grow up with immigrant abuse still being an issue, and the elder population being educated with this issue for a long time. I want my audience to feel the pain and suffering that immigrant detainees felt when being stripped away from their families and treated like criminals under inhuman conditions. In response to my writing topic I also want my readers to want to further their understanding of the topic and what to feel the urgency to speak about and make change towards this issue. I hope that my visual representation gives off a sense of feeling and really touches the audience and exactly show what is the problem. I also hope that my visual images educate them on how individuals are being treated in these detention facilities, and not the propaganda the news shows. Due to my images being presented to give a sense of feeling the rhetorical device that I’d like to use is Pathos because that way my audience will have a sense of emotion when looking at the horrific images of what detainees experience. That way my audience can really understand my point and the social issue in today’s society. I want my audience to understand that individuals should not be treated with such cruel treatment and inhuman conditions with detainees starting with the age newborn to adult.

For this essay, my intended audience is primarily high school students who are beginning to think about the path they will want to take after graduation. For the most part, my audience revolves around students who are thinking about the various reasons to continue their education through college in order to obtain a degree in a certain field. Those who are unsure of college would also benefit from this because it will provide them with important information regarding college. Through my compositions, I would like my audience to become familiar with the benefits of attending college and thus attempt to persuade the students towards attempting to apply to a college or various colleges. In order to obtain this goal, I believe using visual genres generally appeals to younger generations. Many students do not like to read lengthy papers discussing various details and so, using visuals such as a poster or an advertisement allows me to provide my ideas in a simple and efficient manner. Furthermore, posters and advertisements are easy to access through schools or public transportation for many high school students. In order to engage the students in the thought process of college, I will use the rhetorical strategy of logos through simple and direct statistics or facts about the economic and social benefits of getting a college degree. The whole reason for this is to attract students into wanting to apply to college, and so, providing the benefits of attending college through visual genres will allow the students to keep this information in their minds when researching more about college in their own time.

In my discussion of the topic of school bullying, my intended audience is educators, as well as students and parents. Students are the main group that suffer the most from school bullying. In addition, there are educators and parents who are the “keys” to saving students from going astray and providing them with better protection and help.

I would like to educate my audience more about the dangers of school bullying and the effects of school bullying on society. To warn more students to stay away from school bullying and to remind students that serious school bullying may be a criminal offense. Also communicate to educators and parents the reality of bullying cases, observe changes in their children more closely, improve their own educational attitudes, and learn solutions to prevent school bullying.

The first way I wanted to explain my topic was to use the poster style, looking for relatively exaggerated images that would convey a cautionary but not serious style. In addition, I would like to show how negative the effects of school violence can be with some graphic illustrations of real cases or investigative reports, as well as some testimonies of victims who have been injured and how it happened. In this way, we can get parents to value the education and protection of their children. It also appears more authentic and conveys a rhetorical strategy of ethos. These posters can be posted in all corners of the community to draw attention to social issues and draw attention to them.

The next step is to exhibit the dangers of school bullying in the form of advertisements. Advertisements can better promote the negative effects of school bullying. A rhetorical strategy of pathos is used to show how the victim is experiencing the bullying. Advertisements can also be used to better promote effective responses to prevent bullying. Demonstrating some legal knowledge about school bullying and a professional perspective on prevention and protection is also a solution. We can see these advertisements on our cell phones, computers, or TV. Social networking is not only convenient, but it is also easier to be seen and then to pay attention to cases related to school bullying. Regardless of the genre of the posters or advertisements, I hope to convey a message of staying away from school bullying or solving the problem of preventing school bullying, and I hope that this problem can be reduced in society and a sound education system can be found to prevent school bullying.

My inquiry-based research essay was written in regards to the topic of Psychedelic legalization and effects they have. I think for this type of paper I want to focus my audience primarily on the US government and through that the rest of its citizens. I chose such a broad scope because I think too narrow of a focus will render my voice useless because of my chosen genres. Based on my type of topic I feel like it is important to try to reach the “man” directly. The U.S. Government is a body made up of thousands of different voices with different opinions but all tend to have very little time. A poster and a political cartoon have been used in America’s history to both criticize and spread awareness and I think in this instance it is no different. I would like to use my voice to outline some flaws in the legislative system. I think criticism is at times the most eye-catching form of media for the populace and what the populace focuses on the governing body at least catches wind of. To achieve this I will use primarily ethos and logos. Ethos by showing the illogical legislation placed under psychedelic substances that have led to great grief in American families and wasted potential in the medical fields. Ethos by showing, not necessarily my ethics, but the ethics that branch all of us together. In a more clear sense, we are undeniably human beings and no matter our differences we are still interlocked by this fact and I want to focus on that to strengthen my arguments. 

For my third essay, I have decided to stick with the topic regarding coronavirus and the publics’ misconceptions regarding the disease. In my previous essay I’ve addressed how in social media there are cases where the audience can misinterpret the information you are providing and therefore reaching a conclusion that is incorrect. Therefore, for my third essay I want to make sure the audience I will be targetting will have little to no misconceptions towards the information that is being provided. This way, the audience I want to target can take the information the way it is supposed to be taken in. Therefore, For my third essay I want to use ads/posters that can be seen when a person is scrolling through social media going to work, going to work on a public transportation system, or simply strolling through the streets of their city. I feel like this genre is very suitable for the type of essay I am trying to write because one of the main focuses I’m trying to achieve is to get rid of misconceptions that may lead to large consequences. By picking a genre that can be shown in public areas where many people will access allows me to put my work/writing in an area that is exposed to many people which will allow me to achieve my goal to rid of misconceptions regarding the violation of human rights resulted from the coronavirus as well as the misconceptions of masks and their effectibility as well.

For this essay, I am planning to direct my audience to the general public, average users of social media. I want to look for people who are aware of the issues surrounding immigration and are around my age. Since we are the next generation it makes more sense for me to reach out to the same group of people who would want to speak up for those who can’t. I want my audience to feel where I’m coming from, not just with a biased opinion. I hope that my visual essay can educate others on immigration and help immigrants know and understand the rights that they are guaranteed, even when the justice system doesn’t allow it.

An online post could quite possible attract my audience more, maybe creating a tiktok, although I personally don’t post on that app, I can try to put together a quick 1-minute video that expresses my points. With this visual representation I’ll be able to make something relatable but also do my best to reach a wide audience. I can also try to create a short informational video but I’m not quite sure if I’ll have the right equipment or confidence to film myself talking which is why I’d do the video on tiktok.

For my essay I’m going to use the rhetorical strategies and use a bit of all of them. I want to use logos because it’s the best way you can educate your readers. Pathos can also evoke an emotion out of my audience because they will understand why my topic is important.

My intended audience will be readers of The New York Times. Educated and motivated professionals who live in the urban areas that are most heavily affected by influxes of crime. Middle class individuals with homes and children they desire to protect, and a genuine interest in the quality of their surrounding community.People that seek out up to date information on current affairs as a tool to guide them in the development of their political and social opinions.

My modified cartoon will target a more liberal, left, early-millennial demographic. Attractive to this group because of the humor, sarcasm, and ethos that appeal to a more progressive population. It will engage their social and political awareness as well as their understanding of shifting cultural standards. This genre will create a kneejerk emotional response while still maintaining the tradition of print consumed by older generations.

The second, a letter to the editor, will be written from the perspective of the conservative right. It will be a brief and sharp, opinion-driven argument; an expressive and engaging attempt to convince readers to reconsider their original position. This genre is appealing to mature populations as it delivers a more serious and deliberate message. Those who take the time to write and read letters to the editor desire their reasoning to be heard, utilizing this medium as they may be less adept in the use of modern social media platforms. Logos will be the focus of this genre by exercising logic and a calculated counter argument to information originally presented about crime in the essay.

My intended audience are divorced families, including both parents and children. I primarily would like to reach divorced parents because they have the most control over what happens in a divorced family. They are responsible for their children and their actions can directly influence their children as well. I would also like to reach out to the children of these families because they may feel confused and alone in this hard situation.

For the divorced parents, I would like them to be more self aware of their actions when they are around their children. This will prevent their child from having internalizing problems and externalizing behaviors. For the children of these divorced families, they may not have realized that some of the behaviors their parents exhibit may not be healthy towards them. Through my composition I’d like them to understand that not all the ways their parents respond to their divorce is acceptable. Depending on their situation, it would be great if these children spoke out to their parents about these behaviors.

I would choose to use a subway ad to reach divorced parents, and a meme to reach their children. I believe that a subway ad would be the most accessible medium for divorced parents because a large number of parents, especially in New York, use the subway everyday to get to work. While they are in the subway waiting for a train, or in a train waiting for their stop, they can read this ad. A meme would be the most attractive medium to use for the children of these divorced families because it’s the easiest to share through social media.

I plan to use both logos and pathos with both of my audiences. I believe that a mix of both will push them to try to create a better familial relationship with each other and a better home environment.

For my composition in two genre essays, my intended audience is the US government. The primary characteristics of the US government are that they are their ones who can make and pass laws to make a change in today’s society and economy. I want them to understand that one of the main contributions to the current racial wealth gap between black and white Americans is from the numerous policies that they’ve passed and did not prevent, since the beginning of American history. I want them to bring more awareness to the issue and that they need to do something about it because the racial wealth gap limits opportunities such as medical needs, quality education, and career opportunities among the American public based on their race.

The genre that would make my ideas more accessible is a political cartoon. Political cartoons are generally published through newspaper and online magazine and newspaper articles; therefore, this type of genre is accessible to the public. Politicians would be able to see the political cartoon because they probably read a newspaper or the internet to keep up to date on current issues.

The rhetorical strategies I intend on using is pathos and logos. Since I am using a political cartoon as my genre, I’m going to demonstrate how the black American population had suffered from the laws and policies that the government has implemented, and how this country was able to grow through the suffrage of black Americans. I also plan on using logos by writing the specific policies on each white man’s torso. I would try to draw what each of those policies did.

My intended audiences are government and police officers who are trying their best to combat this crime. Their role is unrivaled to prevent sexual assault. Second, in our lives, our parents or guardians play an enormous role. Our parents or guardians need to encourage their daughters to engage in self-defense activities and to encourage them to succeed in every step they have taken in their lives. Next, Feminists are also part of my audience for the composition of two genres because they are fighting for women’s rights and they can understand other women’s situations. They can ensure women get equal rights as men and support them to report any sexual harassment they experience to the police.

In my composition, I want to influence my audience and help them to change their perspective as they have negative thoughts about the victim. I want my audience to feel, understand, and play their role properly to stop sexual violence. Our police officers need to make sure that the victim must report the incident that she experienced. Sometimes the victim’s family doesn’t want to report the incident for getting thread or fear of getting attacked. So, our government and police officers need to protect the victim’s family and encourage them to file a case. Our parents should support the victim mentally and physically. Our feminists should stand with the victim and need to make sure the victim gets justice. 

I believe the political cartoon and poster could make it more accessible and attractive to my audience. I choose a  political cartoon that has an extreme significance to influence my audience and help them to change their perspective. This political cartoon is trying to transforming our mind by adding a “Not” in the last line. In the end, the last line was too significant because we can’t judge anyone’s outfit, and “Showing skin is not a crime but rape is a crime.”  A political cartoon allows my audience to deliver information effectively and it is easy to transfer my message to my audience. For my second genre, I choose a poster that will help my audience to experience what kind of situation a victim has to face. A poster is a great idea to use because it can help my audience to visualize the situation and grab their attention to make a better improvement.

In rhetorical strategies, I will use pathos and logos to engage my audience. For pathos, I will use an emotional picture of a victim who has experienced sexual assault and different texts to show how society blames them. I believe this will evoke the sympathy of my audience. Finally, I will use my political cartoon for logos by adding text that “Showing skin isn’t a crime but rape is”. This text is significant and this logic will help me to convince my audience.
